    Cheers mate, yeah when I do a restoration or 'clean up' it is one of the first places I hit - it's amazing how much dirt and muck can find it's way into areas!

    2 hours done today, best leave it the weekend or the wife will be getting grumpy

    Wheels off onto 4 axle stands and had a go at the arches on passenger side, all metal bits wire wooled down to remove the protruding rust ready for some hammerite treatment.
    Pressure washed down then coated in gunk, brushed to a froth then pressure washed again.

    before i started

    and after

    not too bad, bit left to do with the hammerite and do something with the struts.....any suggestions?

    The arches will be left as they are will look into some sort of protective coating for them i think

    apologies for the pic heavy posts

    Remembered to take a few more pics of the progress today and also remembered when putting the skirts on that it had these protective strips along the top of the side skirt into the door shut;
    It was bugging me so tried TPS but they're obselete... Well it was worth a try! So straight on eBay and found this stuff anti slip waterproof tape for boats, skin friendly apparently!
    Worth a try so ordered some it was only cheap,cut a bit to size warmed it up as it's quite thick stuck it on and I think it looks ok;
    Aerial was looking a bit sorry for itself;
    So a new seal and a bit of matt black aerosol later;
    Also got these cleaned up and fitted,managed to remove them carefully without bending them and they went back on quite nicely with a few new clips;
    Then got home to a note from TNT through the door saying they'd left a parcel next door which turned out to be this:)
    It should've been delivered to work but they got the address wrong somehow,don't think my neighbour was to impressed! It's in pretty good condition just a bit of paint fracturing,all the important bits are fine though. Going to try and get the bumpers painted Saturday after work I hope.

    Car is fairly standard aside from KwV1 coilovers.
    Pete knows the car from a couple of shows last year,it used to have BBS Rx2's fitted

    Nearly there with the polishing now,so started to fit it back up,got most of the rear end fitted up apart from the bumper as I'm hoping to get a US spec one, as I'm fed up with having bits of golf everywhere I go (home and work!) and I'm getting impatient and want to see what it's going to look like! So here's a couple of before and after pics;
    And a couple of others;

    Got a lot of the golf painted today, was hoping to paint everything apart from the bumpers but ran out of time and the pub next door to work was calling by 3 o'clock! So anyway this is what I got done,needed 2 or 3 hours more of stripping and prepping and got the doors and tailgate off, would have liked to have painted it with the doors and tailgate on but didn't want the paint edges in the shuts; Then got it into the oven and up on axle stands with the wheels off so I can get under the arches and sills etc,plus I didn't want overspray on my wheels! And got it masked panel wiped and tack clothed off so hopefully it's as clean as absolutely possible; Then first coat of base, A couple of action shots!; Then a lot of coats of base later,the coverage of the solvent base I bought was s#%t to say the least I hindsight wish I'd stuck to water based for this as it would have covered better but it's harder to nib imperfections out of it, anyway pics; Then 3 coats of laquer later; And that's how I left it, going in early on Monday to get it back down on the floor and out of the oven, then hopefully get the doors and tailgate painted one evening in the week! Now I'm going to die on the sofa for a couple of hours cause I feel shagged after that!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Yeah going to be lots of polishing now, looks like I might be staying late a couple evenings this week!
    Learning how to paint isn't that hard it's having the equipment to do it properly that's the problem!

    Quick update of the prepping progress this week. First of all I decided to roll the front arches only slightly so that hopefully the wheels won't rub lock and if it does it won't rip chunks out of my nice new continentals! Or ruin the wing,but I wanted to keep the splash guards so I just rolled the top of the arch over a bit and the splash guards should still sit behind the lip,sorry about the crap photos! Hope you can make it out before;
    After;
    Finally got a longer bolt for the front engine mount, good old eBay!
    Then started blocking all of the flat areas with 240 grit,loving spending tea and lunch breaks doing this bit......not!
    Hoping to get most of it maybe all of it painted at the weekend so any spare time over the next couple of days will be spent with a D.A and lots of 500 grit discs getting everything as flat as possible.....
