    Won my golf for peanuts off of eBay and the main reason was the clutch was f/^ck=d and it turned out to be the nylon bushes on the clutch pedal, £1.38 plus vat and 20 mins of laying under the dash and swearing later all sorted!! ;-)

    Well played on the welding mate! Guess it should be good as it is your trade mind
    Really is coming along.
    If i can ask though, what wheels are these? As they look really good and suit the car well.

    Looking forward to this progressing, especially the recces shorting.

    Yes mostly expensive downs, look on the bright side, when you've replaced everything it'll be pretty much a brand new car as a sum of it's parts, then hopefully a good few years of trouble free (ish) motoring

    Yeah agree with that,all of the badges will be going back on,got no problem with people knowing what it is! Keep forgetting to get a couple of pics of the finished recess with the handle on.
    Got quite a bit done in the last few days, the rest of the car is now in primer as I used a day of holiday to try and push it along and took a couple of wheels home at the weekend and got most of the prep done on them,so managed to get 2 painted as the other 2 were still on the car. But at least I could get a before and after;
    I also rubbed down prepped primed and painted the inside of the wheels as the were a bit scabby not at all bad for twenty something year old wheels though, didn't think they bad enough to warrant acid dipping or shot blasting plus that would cost and I'm to tight! So first I used a nylon strip and clean wheel and got rid of most of the corrosion;

    Love the recess, great touch and different to the us spec which everyone seems to want at the minute, I would have kept the vw badge too, i think cars can be over smoothed IMO

    Personally if I had 30k in my pocket to buy a motor with it wouldn't be a golf or a s3. Lol. But then that's me, no love for brand new cars. :-p rather something with 3 years depreciation on it. ;-)

    Yeah I think buying the golf has made me realise that it's pretty much impossible to do anything original with a golf, so you're better off just doing what you like and if anyone else likes it, it's a bonus!

    Looking good mate, similar rust issues as mine had,hope your sills are in better condition than mine though, what a mission! I reckon a set of hella twin headlamps would suit it down to the ground!

    Didn't think it'd be this bad! I thought, bit of surface rust,clean it up treat it underseal it or whatever.........wrong!! But I suppose if you're going to do something you got to do it properly! Nearly there with the rust now so I can start on the rest of the bodywork, which is good because I hate doing rust!

    Like I say it only took that length of time because of the shifts we work and the weather and having to spend time with our families lol. I've went on to put full black colour concept leather in it, a full custom magnaflow stainless exhaust and an induction kit and coilovers on. The future plans are upgrade my brakes get another bare engine strip it and rebuild it ready for a turbo and turn the car to a VRT ;D

    Got the passenger side all welded up this week,it seemed pretty solid when I stripped off the wing and side skirt.....I was wrong the bit of surface scabs had started going all the way through, thanks to all of the crap that had collected behind the splash guard after 17 years off driving! This is what I found after cleaning off the paint; Cut a bit of sill out to have a look inside and found this; Ended up cutting a lump of inner sill out and putting some thicker plate in there to strengthen the jacking point but forgot to take photos! Then just used the front section of the pattern sill as the rest of the sill is pretty solid looking from the inside and out. Then got a bit of primer on it and threw the wing with dent ( the 2nd one from TPS! I'm after discount now not a 3rd dented one! ) and door back on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    I think you may be right! The cheapest ones by the look of it lol

    I have never had a car that's been this much of a pain before everything I touch something happens or there's an issue caused by previous retard owners.
    I'm hoping the wheels will be on at the weekend and dare I say it I will be driving it about, fingers crossed

    After 15 odd years of playing with my own cars and being in the motor trade I've found out that nothing ever runs smoothly when working on your own car!! Good luck with getting the wheels on soon, they look great!

    Finally something good! Got my wheels back today!
    I bought them thinking I could just fit them but when I went to get the tyres fitted it turned out all 4 were properly buckled, 1 was possibly usable if put on the rear but even that wasn't recommended.
    They had been sat in boxes at my house for a few weeks prior so I decided instead of contacting the seller I would just bite the bullet and get them sorted.
    After going to 3 wheel places I was losing hope as they all said they wouldn't touch them because they are splined bolt splits and they were so buckled they were scrap so I should just not bother wasting my time with them.
    I ended up at Northampton Welding as the other wheel places said he can fix any wheel so was worth a try, he was sound, was fully up for taking them on and he was very reasonably priced so I thought fuck it lets do this lol
    I got him to straighten them and tidy them up, split them and get them re painted then rebuild them with new bolts and nuts and stretch the tyres on.
    I went for gloss black dishes with matt black centers and gold bolts, I went and picked them up after work today and I'm really pleased with them I can't wait to get them on the car!
    Here's some crap pics at the wheel place I will get some better ones in daylight

    Thanks, didn't want it to look an old dog that has had a few patches welded on to get it through mots! I've primed,sealed, stone guarded then ill dust a bit of colour over the patches so it looks quite factory,not forgetting the cavity wax........Is that a bit OCD!? Anyway hopefully it'll last.
    Got the wing whipped off today as I didn't have much choice as half of it was on the floor in a pile of rust and red paint and the sill wasn't to bad,was going to try to make a bit of a plate for it but then I found out that I could get a pattern sill for £11.50+vat!!!! ;-) I only want the section behind the wing as the rest isn't to bad,just a couple of scabs so I'm not buying genuine ones!
    Then this turned up, so I had to try it on! Fits ok apart from it the gap along the drivers wing, can't decide if it's the way it been transported or because it's been made in Mexico! The spoiler looks like it's been smashed into every curb in America, but it wasn't that expensive so I'll make do. Unless someone on here's got a us spec spoiler that's in good nick that they want to sell?

    Tried the new genuine wing that was an eBay bargain at around £60 delivered which was new old stock from s&n autospares, which fits perfectly.

    Yeah think I'll wait till i get it all painted anyway,the original idea was to keep it very original,but that idea is gradually going out the window damn you internet for putting ideas in my head!
    Anyway got a bit more welding done today, I'll let the pics do the talking;
    Then thought I'd pop the side skirt off to see what it was like underneath...... and the drivers wing crumbled!!!!

    This wasn't the idea as I was just hoping to get all the welding underneath done and start on the bodywork towards the end of the winter,but it's kind of pushing me to make a start now! On the plus side though the sill wasn't to bad.
