Afternoon all, I'm sitting here in a hotel room bored & was thinking about a conversation I had with a guy from work who owns an R32 about what I want to do to the Golf over the next couple of years. We we're wondering if the DSG box could be made to run on the 12v engine? I know it would need to be converted to FWD but could the wiring be sorted? Does the DSG box run it's own ECU or is it an integral part of the engine ECU? This is all theoretical at the moment but I've just been trawling ebay & DSG boxes don't seem to be too expensive.... My other idea is to buy a complete 2003/2004
I'll get the garage that does all the servicing on my work vans to do it as it seems like a pig..... Plus laying under the car getting covered in oil isn't my idea of fun lol
Mk1's are still my favorite Golf by far & I remember the peach VR6 one from the late 90's.... I always wanted one. Good luck with the project, it'll be awesome when it's up & running!
Nice car mate, looks great. I plan on doing this this week while I'm working away, I've bought a sheet of Laminex 12"x9". Will 1 sheet be enough & is it easy enough to put on?
Evening all, I haven't been able to find any evidence of the gearbox oil ever being changed & the gearbox is now starting to become very violent in shifting, also it whines quite loudly (don't know if this is a characteristic of the gearbox though) Is the gearbox oil change something I could do or does it need to be plugged into diagnostics to get it right? Cheers Jamie
Well I had a free day so SWMBO gave me permission to go play with the Golf, so I drove over to the parents house, moved some cars around & got to work. 1st thing to do was to strip the door & remove the window/regulator Mt ghetto window closer Window & bit of wood out Next was to strip the door of the GTI & remove the bits I needed. I didn't take any pictures of this or the re-install of the regulator & window.... Mainly due to the fact that I was swearing at the stupid little gap in the door that I had to thread everything through. Got it all done &
Me too mate. At the moment she's running fine, I've done about 200miles in her since I found the crack without any sparking or miss firing. It may have just been cos she'd been stood for nearly 3 weeks in the wet without running. I'm going to get the coil pack at the end of the month & see how it goes. And Pete..... I did that when I bought the car & she wasn't impressed when I came home with it, something along the lines of "why do we have another old golf sitting outside?! Are you going to lose a load of money on this one too?" I don't think I'll get away with bringing parts home f
