Standard clutch makes?
-
Do you think it would be worth upgrading to a organic clutch? Or if I stay standard what makes are good?
-
So I'm in the process of doing the chains, and whilst the engine is out I'm swopping the cams and fitting a billet ally flywheel ready for supercharging. I think power wise it will make around the 270/280 mark. I don't like the idea of fitting a F1 style paddle clutch which will make it horrible for daily driving but don't want any chance of slipping. What clutch do you think will be right for me?

VR6 won't start - Possibly head/lifter related?
Sump_slammer replied to Das Matt's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
If its got all that then id start looking at the base map. How has it ruled out tps and maf? You are still running them? -

Without the car infront of me its all stabbing in the dark. But if it just about idles and then cuts out with throttle it sound fuel related. Is the pump priming? And are you getting fuel to the rail? If so check the injectors are switching with a noid light or multi meter. If that all seams good mabee mass air flow or throttle position sensor. It dosnt help not having the engine running before the management went in. Where are you located? -
It probably goes without saying, but only use genuine valve stem seals!!! And head gasket. I thought I could get away with euro car parts head hasket set... That was the worst thing you can do! Brand new valve stem seals leak and the rocker gasket was nowhere near right! Because of this im striping it down again. What I lernt was if a jobs worth doing its worth doing properly!

Ok cool, as vortech chargers dont relly have much ability to run high boost how do I go about working out the thickness of the spacer plate? Is there a formula I can go by or somthing?
-
Thats what i thought, but the guy who is selling the kits recons its fine without.

Ive owned my vr and loved every minute of it for the last 6 months and enjoyed replacing worn out parts and doing the headgasket. Problem is now im getting a little power hungrey. Its currently running a 6 branch and a over the top home made 3" exhaust straight through and sporting a k&n. Ive read up alot on turboing vr's but felt that to do it right the price spirreled out of control very quickly by the time you fit a good gt35 garret and a spa exhaust manifold. So started looking at the supercharged route. Spoke to a company today called ns tunning who can provide me with a super charger

Why dont you build it right first time round instead of "blowing up" a perfectly good engine.
-
As the title says relly. I saw a build thread on here where a somone bought a car which had a aftermarket boot lock assembily which had the lock and boot pop hidden under the trim. Looked relly good but forgot to take note of where to buy it from anyone got any ideas?
-
Hello mate, I saw this build on edition. Last I saw you were pissed off with your painter who screwed up you blue 5 door shell. But to find this build and see what you have built and how you moved on, its inspiring! Truly. Love how it looks now, will be interested to see how you tidy the rear up with the roll cage.

Hi just a quick one regarding turbo'd stuff. With the intercooler and boost hose is it highly recomended to run 3"? Or for low boost apps can 2.5" be sufficient?
-
Think itll be a case of making your own mate. Make the template out of cardboard first. Then get a lump of stainless from a metal merchant. Then lay the card board over the top draw round it then set to work with a grinder and for the middle drill it out then use a die grinder to get the worst of it out then youll be finishing it with a file.

Ok so I know most of you want to probly want to drop elbow me in the face for asking such a question. But what units are out there that do the job well? I see good results from begi units. I belive from back in the day Sard was a good aswell? Also when plumming them in its done on the return line back to the tank? And does this mean that it replaces the standard presure regulator which is in the fuel rail from factory? If so what do you do with the unit on the rail? Remove it and blank it off? Or leave it in situ without a vac line? Cheers guys will be intrested to here from you.

Well I re-checked my level when it was stone cold ran it up to 96 then gave at a heavey right foot then it only climed to 106 so must have been a different grade oil or just in need of a oil change. Thanks for the specs. Gives me piece of mind. Need to check these things out.
-
Hi vr gurus. What oil temps are everyone seeing and what oil are they running? Im running 10w40 Valvoline and on motorways I'm getting 104 degrees? This is since its first oil change with me don't know what oil it was running before but hottest I saw it before was 98 and that was spirited driving. Dont feel like I trust giving it a hoof in its current oil issues.

Cool sound like genuine HT's for the win. But what plugs? Irridiums? Or anything better about?
-
So my HT leads are abit on their last legs. Which is the best set to go for? Im going to steer clear of euro car parts HT leads because every set ive seen of them are terrible quality. Now the set which seems to be the best I know of is the genuine vw ones at £160. But are there any uprated ones which are any better? Also which plugs should I opt for? NGK iridiums at a tenner each? Or are there better under the counter secret bad boys?

Drivers window working - ish
Sump_slammer replied to Sump_slammer's topic in I.C.E, Security an Electrical
Cool cheers chaps ill whip the old card off today and have a goosey ganders. Ill post back what my automotive archeology revels. -
So the drivers window goes up and down but only a inch at a time. The window once went all the way down and once went all the way up. It was a great moment in the cars history that I would love to recreate on a daily basis. Any ideas?

Hello ladys and gents. This is my first post on here as ive bought my first vr6 mk3 golf a couple of weeks ago. I'll post a build thread up of the maintainence and shiney bits that go on once the weather gets better and once I get underway. But here is my question. So I need to do a head gasket on the vr and whilst im at it im going to do the chains upper and lower. Is it worth pulling the engine out to do it? Or shall i just work aroud it and leave it in? The book time to pull the lump out is 7 hours aparently. Would I need to drop the subframe off to do it? Or just pull the front end off and
