  1. Hi, am i being picky or misunderstood this but in the intro section the sub heading on the home page says "Say HELLO to everyone. Please post a photo if your brave enough - then we know what you like at events too!" should it be know what you look like? Im a geek!!
  2. One side finished and half a bonnet......this paint really is very good to work with. http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_1659_zps579d5805.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_1660_zps278ca259.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_1662_zps83510b88.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_1664_zpsa3dffc42.jpg bit of a 50/50 sort of with the swirl mark removal http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_1666_zps7f81ab07.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_166
  3. Most important part mate, lots to do yet but progress.
  4. So, today i decided to crack on with the machine polish, 1 front wing and passenger door done, bearing in mind the prep work i did earlier on in the thread, this ment i could crack straight on with the rotary. Washed first and dried, then ive used a scholl concepts spider pad in spot size for the wings and doors, easier with a spot pad due to the contours, larger spider pad to be used on the rear quarter and roof/bonnet. 2 passes at 800 rpm to spread 4 passes at 1200 rpm 4 passes at 1500 rpm then reversed back down to a final pass at 600 rpm. Did this in 18-20" sections at a time.......as
  5. In fairness, it isnt their choice wether you drive it or not, basically what they are wanting is you to just say ah feck it you do all the work then. Id just get it home and accept it will be off the road until you sort it yourself. Once you get to the point where things just wont happen, best bet is to go have a cuppa/fag/poo or whatever and go back to it later on when you have calmed down. A car is only nuts and bolts and only works one way so you are capable. I would just spend a bit of time on the net researching exactly what tools you need to complete the jobs properly and go from there.
  6. Little update, Oil change done with genuine vw oil filter and 10w 40 oil, new air filter and 6 new ngk plugs. Whilst the manifold was off for refitting the new polished item i cleaned the throttle body out, not horrendous before but spanking now. Got a bit giddy wth the dremel whilst touching the polish up on the manifold after fitting and polished anything metal i could find. http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_1630_zps94cf8cbb.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_1615_zps053dd75c.jpg http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t455/jamesw68101/IMG_160
  7. so i can see what they look like on the highest setting to judge arch clearance....not much point posting really then no?
  8. Strange one but does anyone have photos of their coilovers wound up fully on their vr6 as in the highest they go? Cheers
  9. I'll pass this on fellas cheers, likely to be the rear mount? As in gearbox mount?
  10. feels like when you drop the clutch to gear change it kind of clunks and jerks aswell.......
  11. was my thought mate, probably are yeah its got 144k and hes never done them, would that contribute to a metallic noise? he also said that it clunks when changing gear most of the time?
  12. Evening, not my car but my mates mk3 1995 vr6 has developed a noise on acceleration sounding like a metallic rattling type of noise, ive had a look but its hard to diagnose, it kind of happens on hard acceleration and sounds like metal catching metal.....any idea or experiences on this please? cheers

    Tyres

Toyo proxes 4. cracking tyre, had them on my e46 m3 a while ago and they hadled that really well, very quiet, dont last ages but im guessing on the vr6 much like the m3 you wont be doing huge mileage
  14. Dont get wet and dry from halfords though mate, its utter poo......more like wet and then fall apart. Just go steady with the wet and dry in the 3 grit levels and keep it nice and wet. The lights should go foggy when youve done it right and then the polish will fetch it back out. For these id try to pick up a decent polish applicator, may need some more oomph than the microfibres can give...
  15. Normally the starter would whine over a few times before cranking and more often than not sound like its carried on a few revolutions before firing, possible the ht leads are dusted up or as you say struggling to fire a spark. Check your coilpack also for any cracks in the casing......
  16. Meguiars thing is very pricy mate, tbh id just wet and dry then go at it hand polishing, best hand polish by far is autoglym SRP, easy to work and capable by hand. slightly abrasive but more of a filler, but if the lights arent to bad and just faded and dull then that may bring them up well by hand, the wet and dry will sort the scratches and dull film out anyway.
  17. Youll want to wet and dry first mate, then polish as said above, just use a fine grade id do a couple of passes with 1200 then 1500 then 2000 wet and dry, wipe off then clay bar, then polish with a finishing type of polish pad at around 1200rpm, start with a fine finishing polish dependant on how rough the lights are. Just keep the machine moving, plastic cant take the heat the pad will generate in comparison to paint. The meguiars stuff is like £20 for some sandpaper and a polishing bonnet! its 20p a sheet for wet and dry and no doubt youll already have some polish and a machine, if not get
  18. DIY mate, the only way youll ever truly be happy with the standard. £40 should see you right if just an oil and filter change, i did mine including plugs for £47. At least ill know the oil is right, the sump plug wont be rounded off and the oil filter is put on un threaded and hand tight plus a twist and the plugs are torqued in correctly. 2 bad experiences would prompt me to diy.
