  1. Ok so being silly forgot to note the order for fitting..it was late...it was dark...i was tired...i was hungry... I have the following bits and cant remember the order, could someone kindly help please Thanks
  2. Coil pack is arcing out, which explains why is was running a bit rough and emissions being high! Also pulled the water pumps and 4 fins missing!
  3. Ok so been working through the cooling system over last few days after an overheat, checked pipes, replaced thermostat etc, decided to pull the water pump cos I had a feeling... Turns out four of the fins have gone! Been looking on ECP and there are two shown, Circoli (£18) and KWP (£29), anyone know if these are plastic or metal? also anyone have any comments about either, which to go for? Thanks Ian
  4. I will investigate tomorrow morning and report back!
  5. Ok so have now drained and flushed the cooling system and replaced thermostat and housing, ran car on drive for 30 min, no leaks and no overheating! However now noticed sparks coming from coil where HTs meet coil, so guessing coil is shagged? Also done a block test and not indicating head gasket.
  6. Ok will give it a go and see the results, cheers
  7. Hi, My son's late 95 obd2 golf VR6 has just failed MOT on emission, CO on 2nd fast Idle started at 0.8, but after running for 10 mins did drop to 0.24, but quite down to 0.200 so failed! The car had been sitting for 3 years prior to driving it 15 miles to MOT I have cleaned the air filter and will take for a blast on motorway prior to retest, however, ran a diagnostic on the car with following results...please could I have your input to see if this flags up any issues... Absolute Throttle Position ..........3.9% Engine RPM........736 RPM Calculated Load Value ....2.7% Timing Advance (C
  8. Ok so £tell tale" light on dash was a missing bulb ...sorted Question I is that the headlight switch works the side lights, but not dipped beam, the indicator stalk allows flashing of high beam but not always on, so would headlight switch fault cause main beams not to stay on? On the flip side would indicator/high beam stalk fault cause the dipped beam not to work?
  9. OK, so just picked up a 1995 "N" golf VR6, it has been garaged for 3/4 years, and it has failed on lights 001 Main Beam "tell tale" not working 002/3 N/S & O/S front headlamps niot working on dipped 004 Front Headlamp switch is faulty *Full beam is not staying on, only on flash So any suggestion to getting this sorted? I thought it may be light switch? How can I test the switch? Thanks
  10. They are no kicking in and the car is not overheating anymore Both pipes are now hot
  11. Ok , so my son has just scrapped his Mk3 8v GTi (i really dont like using the term GTi on these cars!) and after driving my old Daewoo around for a bit, has just purchased a Golf VR6. I have owned a number of MK1 & 2 and a VR6 and aircooled in past, I think my VW love has rubbed off on him. The VR6 he has purchased has been garaged for last 3 years, a late 1995 model, picked it up this morning and drove it to MOT station (15 miles). At one point it got very hot and over heated, I stopped on side of road, I was assuming water pump. The tope rad pipe was very hot, lower was cold. As
  12. From aged 18 I had a string of golf gti's, mk1, 2 8v 16v loads, nevr had an issue insuring them, used to be with co-op on an any driver policy. Here's the thing, insurance companies never had to worry about break even, i.e it didnt matter as much if totl claims exceeded total premiums for all thier customers, because the insurer could invest that total premium and the interest/return of that investment would be substantial. However, with the economic climate getting steadily worse, they now need to make an underwriting profit, i.e. total premium exceeds claims made. Also factor in the" c
  13. As someone from the insurance industry I have to say £5k is a very good price! Consider that it would normally cost well over £1k to a mum/dad with max bonus to insure a 1.0l micra for a 17 to drive, then factor in that you will be doing 100% of the driving in the car, then factor in the vehicle type, i really doubt you will get cheaper As for everyone, buy cheap small engine cars that can be scrapped if damaged, build 3/4 years NCD up, get to aged 21, and you will be ok. Sorry Ian
