  1. Cheers guys. Iv got the wire wheels and paint and rust removing wheels also. I'll have a good bosh at it this week and see what I can produce. Yes the block and head will be getting sprayed. Got some 60 degree red paint for the block, 600 degree white paint for the head and some engine lacquer. So hopefully breath some new life into the girl. And you can't beat a good bit of jizzage J
  2. happy days then. spoke with volkspares also - inlet valves are £8.21+vat each and exhaust valves are £14.79+vat each so looking at about £110 all in if my maths serves me right. all valve guides are £4+vat so that is £60 you might be right - for the cost of valves, and guides i may get one or two ports polished
  3. I have these, Jom Coilies and to be honest they are not that bad. certainly for the price. even the VR i have now was running these, although i was getting wheel rub where the car was slammed too much the stability was good, and could certainly throw her around corners and RB's just an option for you.
  4. ill leave the Jizer in the tin then so something along the lines of STP / REDEX or parafin based should be good. now im not saying im a firestarter but surely burning said product once on the block would remove everything?? thats a joke btw lol
  5. cool. i will have a butchers just found a place in Gillingham. pressure test and skim of the head £80 pressure test of block £100 seems relatively reasonable to me might ask if they do a little port and polish
  6. see now thats the problem. ill be bricking myself not to get it inside. is it that much of a big problem if i were to get it inside the lump even though im replacing all piston rings, thrust bearings and main shells?

    Cams

thats true. to be honest all the numbers about lift degree etc etc baffle me. i dont know what is good and what is pony. my main question is what would be better for performance and a couple extra horses? these newman cams or a schrick cam to the same spec?
  8. cheers. i was thinking of doing it myself but because its so dirty was thinking of maybe a professional job? i suppose if i do it myself then i swould have more money for maybe getting a bit of head work done. too many choices too many things to do.
  9. haha - i do love a good cup of tea only problem is im lacking a kettle in the unit i do have a sandwich toaster and a small 2kw heater as there is no insulation whatsoever. there will be small bits and pieces i need advice about - like my post about cleaning the block and getting cams

    Cams

Guys, just tried running a search for "Newman Cams" and didnt return anything. so im wondering if anyone knows of these cams? have tried them? have them running? basically Newman Cams are a little outfit just on the outskirts of Bromley. Drive past them loads of times and was thinking that maybe a bespoke outfit like these would be better than the mass-producers of the world? heres there website http://www.newman-cams.com/ im going to be looking at getting new cams pretty soon whilst my engine is stripped down. was going to jump right in the deep end and but them but i thought it is be

  17. Guys, i currently have my engine stripped down to just the block ( sump, pistons and Crank will be removed tomorrow) the engine is filthy, covered in Gunk, oil, Grime, it is on there thick. my aim is to paint the block, but i need it cleaning first. can anyone recommend anywhere that would clean it? maybe even what process to go for? i have read about a hot chemical bath to eat all the crud off the external without damaging the internal. all help would be greatly appreciated. here is a side on pic of the block how she stands now.
  18. Hi everybody. i would say im new but not new in a way (had an account a while back, cant remember username or email and the acc was hardly used, so thought id set up a new one) well a little bit of where i am. proud owner of a mk3 GTi and mk3 VR6. GTi engine has subsequently died and my VR is going to be a doner car. all of which i am in the process of doing right now. managed to hire a unit/workshop in Essex to provide space so i can get to work. I will be uploading a thread on the rebuild and the conversion. and will talk about my future plans for the old girl. i havent been to any
