  1. Say hello to my new girl... A tale of love , pain , tears , sadness & joy all rolled into one (car). It began Thursday 13th of August , sat at work winding down to close , somthing just made me click on Gumtree to see if their were any local VR's (or even GTI's) for a dash , interior & any other good bits. There it was , right at the top of the page a 3 dr black highline , nearest ... As any Northern VR6 owner knows , we don't get a lot of them for sale up this neck of the woods. So a quick email was fired off & one was received just as fast Hi, it is possible that so

It's a good thing it's coming from there , 2L of gear box oil & a gasket will cost no more than £30 + an hour on the spanners. Could have been much worse

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GEARBOX-SUMP-GASKET-VW-Golf-Hatchback-VR6-MK-3-1992-1998-2-8L-174-BHP-Top-Ge-/201101210260 This is a gear box sump gasket ^ do you mean you can see a bit of gasket making it look like a gap ? You need to check it's definatley from the gear box and not oil running onto it from else where then dripping onto the gear box. Gear box oil will smell a lot stronger than engine oil. Give it a good clean off and degrease to locate the sounce of the leak. Good luck.
  4. My current VR was origionaly purchased off the shelf by an indian doctor , he started the ball rolling by specing a blue dash & interior inside a red car , blurghhhhh. Then not a lot happened until the last owner decided to get it resprayed in certain areas with a rattle can & the wrong paint code , stuck some 17s on and then proceeded to use it as a daily (he was a joiner so the blue interior was orange) I have sticker bombed the boot (it was two shades of red with a whole lot of rust) and am currently sourcing a solid tailgate (preferably in Tornado red) oh and stuck a 2" back
  5. Enjoy the forum & the VR .

Yes it will have a gasket around it , you will need to drain it ( make sure the oil is warmed up ) , remove the cover , fit a new gasket , refit the cover, then refill it. If you google gear box gasket & oil change you should get a step by step guide.
  7. I recon so as I have been looking for a VR6 over the last six months+ , anything from £600 (for a hammered one) to £8000 (the red one with 7k on the clocks) , with more getting broke up or rotting they are slowly becoming a classic. You can still get a GTI for around the £300 mark , MOT faliure or short ticket , saw a minter a few months ago unmolested for £700 with 70k. Still kicking myself I didn't buy it and stash it away. I think the mk3 has loads of character & with the different models , GTI 8v , 16v , colour concept , anniversary , VR6 , highline , fans have lots of options.

  9. Thanks Pete I would love to see her on the stand at a show too And thankyou Ingham , she's obd1 so a new Tesla coil was only £20 , and she's had two fresh monroes out back £45 ( eventually get a sports pack when I find one for the right price) Got her warmed up Friday night , oil filter out , then a full drop (going to run her for a few miles then repeat but get the sump off too) Welded up the drivers seat (cracked sub frame) , fitted a fresh dizzy , undid and untwisted one of the rear belts as it was at full extension , checked all the bulbs and dropped her for the MOT. She passed wi
  10. Thanks , she should be back on the road next week & there is a trickle of parts in the post. Fingers crossed this time next year she should be show worthy , most of the major work will be done over winter and she has a nice snug garage to live in now instead of braving the elements. A build thread will be good as I would like to be able to show people how she's come round . My mechanic told me you can't polish a turd , I said no , but you can roll it in glitter
  11. What'd the decibels like on it ? My mate has one and it's hell on the motorway What tail pipe finishes it off , is it back 2 cat , and what price are you looking at , thanks.
  12. North west area prefered , but willing to travel or arrange a courier. Looking for a tailgate in Tornado red with spoiler (will accept other colour but would rather hold out) Stainless system or just a back box for the moment ( to get rid of those horrible stock twintails ) Cheap 3 door gti for interior swop , so no rips or saggy bolsters , non airbag black dash , prefer a short MOT number that can be driven rather than trailered , tornado red would be great but again will go with another colour ( keep those eyes peeled for me people ) Think thats it for the moment , PM's please. Tha
  13. Thanks mate , there's going to be quite a bit going on with her , looking for a GTI mot faliure for a full interior swap and a few parts. I'm thinking a clean almost stock look with a few little touches , clear side repeaters , half clear rears , stainless system , probably back onto the BBS 15" , red strut braces , black samcos , maybe some highline leather or cloth recaros , eventualy smooth the aerials off , posibly the boot , new sills , rear arch , tidy up some drain holes then a lick of tornado red. I can picture it now. I'm in Rossendale Lancashire . Sheep country ...
  14. Hi everyone , thought I'd say hi and Introuduce myself & the old girl ( shes called Old Dirty Bit£$ at the moment) I'm Elliot and bought a low mile (ish 91k) , short MOT , unmolested , orgional rims included , unloved obd1 VR6 back in late May , laquer peel , blue dash & interior (urgh) , little bit of rust but solid , engine pulled great , the usual niggles at 23 ... part of me was saying walk away the other part was telling me someone needs to save her. So I handed over the cash , half way back to home the auxilary belt began squealing intermitently (seized tensioner pulley) the
  15. They look like depo to me , this looks very similar but the light shades are different on the red. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Golf-Mk3-Passenger-Rear-Light-Clear-Depo-NSR-/181792970959?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a53b498cf
  16. Hi everyone , I'm Elliot , currently lurking away in the shadows in Lancashire till my VR6 finds me. After nearly 10 years of driving a 1.9 dci kangoo (work vehicle) I've realised my favourite car as a youth... mk3 golf vr6 is available for a fair price & my fine vintage age let's me insure one for less than the van ! ! I've been researching and viewing the classifieds for a few weeks now , trawling ebay , gumtree , autotrader and auctions , money is waiting , so is my car ... somewhere. Looked at a few but nothing has pulled on the heart strings yet. Not fussed on 3 or 5 door , c
