Mk3 golf vr6 loosing water
VR6 Supercharged replied to Big ash's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Check your water pumps for any visual signs of water leaks/corrosion? Had similar on mine a few months back, turned out it was the secondary/auxilary water pump.. -
I agree here, and certainly with the fact that the drive in drive out turbo conversion at Stealth not being cheap. When I spoke to Vince about doing my VR he quoted around £8,500, that did include doing the chains and new clutch mind. That said though tiz still alot of coin...

POST A SINGLE PIC OF YOUR CAR
VR6 Supercharged replied to mike's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
Here's a picture of my car, well that's if I've done it right.. -
As has just been said, it is all down to personal preference if truth bekown. I have a supercharged VR and the wife has a turbo charged VR. Mine is my every day runner/driver so I like the fact that it's nice and smooth to drive, but if need be I can still put my foot down and give it large. Now all depending on what you want out of the car/use it for will help you decide if you do more research (again as has been said) as with a super charger when it's installed the power you get is pretty much all you will ever get really, where on the other hand with a turbo charger, well power wi

Hi Chris, your mate would be correct as the VR engines do run quite hot as standard. So long as your fans kick in as and when they should? All is good. That said though it won't hurt to do a coolant change, that way you know its been done. While your at it though check for any leaks and have a look at the secondary water pump as well and make sure that works. Some people say their not bothered about the secondary water pump but, VW fitted it for a reason, so in my view if its there it should work.
-
Yep, as Dale p says, def worth doing. Shouldn't cost a great deal to sort out and you'll love it once its done..
-
Hi there, coolant wise? Just a good quality one from your local motor factors is good enough, just make sure its correct for a VR6, I'm sure the colour of it is/ should be pink? G12? Can't really remember now, just tell them what car its for and they should supply you with the correct stuff..
-
Yes just use main dealer for this, they're not actually that expensive if truth be known. And that way you can't go wrong..
-
Hi all, apologies first off if this question has been asked in the past? Basically is the under bonnet sound/heat proofing really required. Not really bothered about any extra under bonnet noise (If removed) if truth be known, the only thing I see it being there for other than noise reduction is so it keeps excess heat away from the bonnet so if anybody touches the bonnet they don't say "Ouch that hurt" correct? Also I'd like to then paint the reassess on the underside of the bonnet White to match my Inlet manifold, Rocker cover and Coolant hoses. Plus I'm looking to vent the b

Thanks for that, I was looking at the Autotech 262's so will probably go with those...

Just out of interest, which cams are good.. Autotech, Schimmel, Schrick etc..?

I fully appreciate everything you say completely, gone way past the point of selling it ever as already got 11k in the car upto now, and thats before the minor MK3 Golf body work issues get sorted.. So she's going to be with me until I die.. Oooh, an so is the misses..

Hi Steve, already put a dip down on the ECU, so no going back now for sure. As for make, its a Link. As for selling charger? Not going to happen, nor is selling the VR, spent way too much on her now over the last two and a half years already, so def a keeper. Love everything about the car, looks, sound etc (much to the wife's dismay) Thanks for the advice/input though much appreciated without a doubt. All I'll say is I used to ride fast road bikes years back, but no longer do for family commitments etc, so needed something that would eventually one day be a little bit like
-
Oh bum. Does that mean I've possible spent more on an ECU than I needed too You live and learn the hard (and expensive) way sometimes. I suppose the only saving grace is when I've saved up my pennies again for some cams and head work done it'll be a doddle to map it I suppose......

I was hoping for 280 bhp as thats what said straight out of the box... They unsoldered the old chip ready for socket and new chip, damaged my ECU in the process, they got a replacement and installed it, VR not happy nor running as should. Replaced Lambda, Maf and various other bits, but still no joy. Me not happy camper at all, been on going now over 2 months.. Hence final dessision to bite the bullet and go standalone..
-
Hi there Steve, already into the car for thousands and thousands now so Noooo going back.. As for my VR, she's OBD1. Bought a VF Engineering supercharger (chip supplied) kit through Regal Autosport and then had a place near to me (Manchester) do the install. Long story short there's a fault with the supplied chip? Regal don't seem to be interested? Spoken to a few firms now and they all say the same thing, standard ECU cannot run at 8psi as it factory set at 0psi. Can't really use the VR now at the moment for fear of it cutting out whilst driving (only now and again mind) but the rev

Indeed there is, as ssaunders said "More power = more monies. All dependant on how for you want to take it, it can cost silly monies without a doubt.... Good luck in getting where you want to be which ever route you decide...
-
For what its worth I'm getting a standalone ECU installed next month, as the chip install wasn't the best and the still isn't running as it should. Not much help I know, but that's the route I'm going....

Brakes
VR6 Supercharged replied to VR6 Supercharged's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Thanks for that. Will try Oem and More, as for VW Parts International...? There asking £55.00 English notes per side.. VW (when current) were only selling them for £24.00 each As for phoning VW Heritage, I was going to do that today just on the off chance they may have them, but didn't have time... Will ring them tomorrow. Thanks for the info.. -
Hi all, just in the process of upgrading the front discs/pads on the wife's MK3 VR. Noticed the backing plate/stone guards have seen better days and need replacing. Now obviously I'm not on my own with this issue (20+year old car) Basic question is does anybody know where to get new replacements from? Spoke to VW today, discontinued in 2014 Checked VW Heritage website, no listing, checked GSF's website, no listing and checked B&B components website with no joy Now I can't be the only one with this issue...? Anybody any ideas were I can source news from.....

Not sure if it's me or not, but there seems to be atleast an inch of unused rubber going on, towards the edge of that back tyre... Tee hee.

Corrado/golf VR6 Rear Disc Removal
VR6 Supercharged replied to jaks14's topic in Brakes and Suspension
Just be careful not to overtighten the nut holding the disc/bearings on otherwise the bearing will seize up when out on a run...
