2001 VW Jetta VR6 - 6 speed manual I am in the process of trying to diagnose a DATA BUS short (OBD2 port will not work). Can you unplug the ECU, turn key on to test OBD port and replug the ECU in after without issue? Its a simple question but I cannot find a clear answer anywhere. Am in the process of trying to make a list of modules to check. ECU keeps coming up but there is no way I'm unplugging it without knowing if that will damage it or clear it etc. ABS module and Comfort module are on the list but have not tried yet (taking a damn break from this thing - g

We purchased this car in December 2014 and it sat in a garage until early this year where it was prepped ready to show over in Belfast last week at Dubshed 16. The car itself is a basic model sporting a 1600cc powerhouse with 22k miles from new. It was in very good original condition but we decided to change a few parts!!! The previous keeper also a member on here brought the car back to life then looked after it until we got it. So here it is....... It came with a lot of history that I'll not bore you with!?! It was a real tidy original car so only needed a few tweaks...

I have a totaled 1999 Jetta VR6 automatic that was hit in the rear. I am putting this engine into a 2001 Jetta VR6 manual. It seems to me this should be a no brainer engine swap? Is there any sensors or computer programming that needs to be done. I have 2 complete cars so it seems to me I should have everything I need? Are there any parts I should replace while engine is out? I am planning on replacing clutch assembly and rear seal on engine. Maybe timing chain guides, water pump? Any help or wisdom would be appreciated.

car not idling when pushing in clutch
mrslippery22 posted a topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
So my 98 Jetta glx has recently started doing this thing where the rpms do not drop to 800 when you push in the clutch like it is supposed to. The rpm will eventually go down if you are stop long enough but if not then you can just let off the clutch and the car will go because the rpms are still up. I was told this was because of a vaccum leak but i would like to hear other wise first. -
So I'm quite sure that a need an alternator do to the fact that I put a new battery on yesterday and now this morning i was driving and my guages quite then the car just shut off. Is it possible to change the altornator with out going through the bottom or taking the bumper off, and is it ok to use a toughone 90 amp alternator, cause I'm not really feeling the 300 dollar thing with the 120 amp bosh alternator?
